Running and Sex - What a Combination
Does running and sex have similar parallels? That euphoric feeling that makes us feel good! Well,
from my research the answer is yes. There have been surveys conducted about having sex the night
before competition and the "Survey Says" that running peformance can be improved. Even better,
the reverse also holds true; running may improve sexual performance and could help you set a new
personal record (PR).
Approximately 2,000 runners at the London marathon were surveyed and the results were very interesting.
About 50 percent were against having sex before the race (after all they needed their rest) and those
who said yes to sex had faster finishing times.
Regular running and sex increases feel-good hormones in the body which helps overall physical function and can lead to a happier life.
Harvard University experts conducted a study in 2003 and found men over the age of 50 who run at least
three hours a week have 30 percent lower risk of impotence than those who do little or no exercise. So,
in a way, running acts as a natural Viagra.
Also, women who had made love the night before a race stand to enhance their athletic peformance. Runners World
conducted a poll of women and found 83 percent of women felt running had given their sex life a boost.
Just as running improves the physical, mental and spiritual side, having sex could energize a runner
and enhance emotional fitness and ultimately their performance.
I am often asked why I run so much. I tell them when I run I feel this orgasmatic, wonderful feeling
or Runner's High. And I guarantee you, if it was orgasmatic, there would be more people running too!
With all this being said, I feel if a person keeps active by exercising moderately three times a week,
they feel better about themselves which in turn enhances their total well being. So stay active in fitness and have a happier sex life.
